May 2020: The River of Life 
Our circulatory systems are the river of life. Alteratives have historically been thought of as “blood cleansing” agents, I find it useful to think of them as change agents. We’ll look at how we can help problems as diverse as skin problems to mood through the use of alterative herbs. Includes an introduction to the use of herbs for culinary, cosmetic and medicine and some fun with basic medicine making

Learn about herbs for promoting circulatory and heart health. Learn about herbs for our emotional  and physical hearts.

June 2020: Walk on the Wild Side
Learn about the foods as medicine and medicine as foods, many of them wild,  that keep that have a cleansing, toning and regulating effect on our liver, gall bladder, spleen and pancreas. We’re all exposed to plenty of toxins these days so it’s wise to pay attention! We’ll learn about herbs and techniques to keep us healthy.

July : The Herbs of Summer, Bringing Light to the Darkness
So many of our summer herbs and flowers bring  soothing to our nervous systems. They are classed as nervines and can be so useful  not only to those deep , watery emotional sides of ourselves but can be topically used for conditions  like sciatica and other pain issues but can be used to help us navigate our busy and stressful lives.  Learn about nervine and antispasmodic herbs. Find out about safe and inexpensive sleep and mood helpers.

August: Beauty is NOT Skin Deep
 August it’s our tradition to stay out of the heat and celebrate ourselves in a day of pampering. We'll start the month learning about our 2nd  largest organ, the skin. We'll include learning about our most important natural defense: our skin and wound care.  Then learn about  natural skin care (beauty isn't skin deep) and then prepare everything we need for a facial steam, cleanse, mask, tone and moisturize and do a facial. BRING a large bowl and towel to this class, please. If you don't want to, you'll never need to buy products for this again! We'll make sure to make plenty for you to take home so bringing small containers would be great. This is a really good time to learn the art of medicine making of  medicine making with water, oil and other menstruums.

September: Gonna Make You Sweat
We’ll be studying the herbs that help us eliminate toxins through our urinary tract and our skin, the diuretics and the diaphoretics. We’ll also discuss some common urinary tract problems and herbal strategies that can help and discuss some of the reasons we might need help to sweat. We’ll send you home with some formulas to try.

October: The Art of Formulating
 Formulating and herbal care for the sensitive ones in our lives. Are essential oils ok for babies, should elders take herbs? Change the taste and the texture for the finicky  ones, tricks and tips for compliance.Learn about herbal care for babies, children, elders and pets. Make a vitamin syrup and learn other gentle ways.

November: Wintering In,  Preparing for winter.
Make herbal cold and flu prevention and remedies. Learn about demulcent and expectorant herbs. Learn some herbal tricks to beat the winter blues and create some lovely gifts before we break for the holiday

December: Herbal Emergency!
Herbal first aid strategies. Learn about flower essences.  Use the herbs we’ve collected and prepare an herbal first aid kit. Make last minute herbal gifts!

January: Home and Hearth
There is plenty of healing in your kitchen right now! Kitchen herbs  A to Z looks at the herbal remedies that are already in your kitchen when you need them RIGHT AWAY.  We’ll discuss herbal homekeepimg and make a few  products to clean with herbs, including laundry, pets, bath, and kitchen. There are ways to clean without killing off all our good microbes as we clean.

February: Botanica Erotica
Learn about aphrodisiac herbs and other sensory delights. Reproductive health.  Introduction to aromatherapy. Make a dream pillow and  a wonderful massage oil for those special moments or just as a treat for yourself.

March: Pep In Your Step: spring tonics, alteratives and adaptogens.
Learn about tonic herbs, alterative herbs and adaptogens. Taste spring tonics and make a tonic to take home.

April: Oh My Aching..
We'll study the muscular and skeletal system. We'll include teeth because there's a lot of similarity in the way we treat them herbally. We'll learn about astringent herbs and how they "keep it together for us" As always we'll pass around some herbs for tasting and comparison and have plenty of time for Q and A.

The Why, How and Wow of Herbs: 

May will be all about introducing us to the wonder of the plant allies.

We'll kick off class with a free viewing of Numen, the Healing Power of Plants (though free, please register above) We'll also have a basic intro to remedy, cosmetic and other hands on making, and a plant id walk in the fields and neighborhoods around the Center. Ch,Ch,Changes (thank you David Bowie!): Learning how to use the locally available herbs and “weeds” for yourself, your family and community will change how you think and DO about many aspects of life. We’ll gather and discuss the use of herbs, get to know one another and face the strange changes! Book one! See suggestions below.
